Program Summary
The Department of American Culture and Literature offers a four-year undergraduate program leading to a B.A. degree.
The program aims to stimulate intellectual enquiry that explores Western culture in general and American culture in particular. It is designed to develop students' skills in critical thinking and problem-solving as well as to equip them with the kind of intercultural competence that will be suitable for a variety of professions. Besides courses aiming to enhance students' skills in oral and written English, the curriculum includes courses enabling them to analyze American culture and literature from literary, historical, and critical perspectives. The academic staff consists of 1 professor, 3 assistant professors, 4 instructors and 2 research assistants.
The aim of this program is to have graduates who are competent in the field of American Culture and Literature, who are highly proficient in English and who can think critically. Our graduates will achieve high success in their career, thereby becoming prominent in their professional life.

Opportunities
Graduates of the Department of American Culture and Literature can be employed in a wide variety of sectors requiring competence in English and in cultural and literary matters. Our graduates are widely employed in embassies, cultural institutes, foreign relations offices of companies involved in international business and in the media and tourism sector as advisors in language and culture or as translators. During their undergraduate education students may attend a program offered by the Faculties of Education of a variety of universities to receive a certificate for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. In this way, they become entitled to teach English at institutions of primary, secondary and higher education in Turkey. Those graduates wishing to pursue an academic career can be employed as research assistants in a variety of universities as they continue their studies to obtain higher degrees.
