Security studies, also known as international security studies, are usually considered a sub-academic area of ​​broader specialty; International Relations.

While this field is mostly found in political science and public policy programs, it is increasingly common to pursue an interdisciplinary approach that includes knowledge drawn from the fields of history and geography (while highlighting classical geopolitics), military science and criminology.
