Program Summary

The Department of Middle Eastern Studies at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences has set an intellectual scope for it which is to transcend the narrow regional concept of university studies in a manner that takes into account the fusion of identities and cultures and the production of knowledge in a greater melting pot within the borders of the region and outside it. In his studies and research, the people of these regions, regardless of their place of residence, and therefore focuses on the forms of their communication and connection with the whole world.

Hence, the department's interests will include the study of cultures, religions, geopolitics and the built environments in the MENA region, the elements affecting them around them, and the actors inside and outside it, as well as studying the indigenous and transient populations in the historical and contemporary contexts.

In this endeavor, the department intends to benefit from the best of international knowledge and science, and even to provide it with original knowledge and research, in addition to building the capacities of educators and researchers, each within its competence. To achieve this, the department will apply the best practices adopted in research and graduate studies, thus building a distinct reputation that is strengthened by its geopolitical position in the Middle East in general and in the Gulf region and the State of Qatar in particular. Here, the focus will be on looking at the similarities between the local and the Arab, the course of their development, and noting the social, political and demographic differences that characterize them.

The department also intends, through its master's programs, to encourage the study of forms of indigenous knowledge production in the countries of the world and the ways in which it enhances the understanding of the context and process of development and development in Qatar and the Arab world, all with the aim of studying the role of women in society, and the impact of various digital technologies on communication, media and culture And human development needs in the region.
